Our Story

Archrysalis began in 2009 with a shared vision between Christopher Webb and Amarja Chhapwale Webb: to create a practice where architecture would feel personal, thoughtful, and enduring. What started as their design studio has grown into a founder-led architecture and construction collaborative built around the belief that the most meaningful spaces come from a seamless relationship between idea, process, and craft.

As the studio has evolved, Christopher and Amarja have intentionally built a team that reflects that philosophy — bringing together trusted consultants, talented subcontractors, and a dedicated design and production team who work in close collaboration from concept through completion. At its heart, Archrysalis is a collaborative: a boutique studio with a highly curated network of professionals united by a shared standard of design excellence and quality in execution.

Today, Archrysalis is known for creating modern custom homes, transformative renovations, additions, ADUs, and select commercial environments that feel both elevated and deeply livable. Every project is led with care, shaped by collaboration, and realized with an uncompromising attention to detail. For us, luxury is not simply about appearance — it is about intention, experience, and the enduring beauty of a space made well.

THE TEAM

Christopher Webb

Chris is the founder of Archrysalis and a licensed Architect. He studied architecture at Virginia Tech where he received his Bachelor of Architecture. He later completed the Metropolitan Research and Design (MR+D) program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and received his Master of Architecture.

Christopher worked at Caples Jefferson Architects in New York City on various award winning public and residential projects. He later worked for Shubin and Donaldson Architects in Los Angeles, working on numerous nationally recognized commercial and custom single family residential projects before starting Archrysalis. He is also a licensed General Contractor.

Amarja Chhapwale Webb

Amarja is the founder of Archrysalis and Lead Project Designer at Archrysalis. Amarja studied architecture at Oxford Brookes University in the UK, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture Honors degree. She attended the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), where she received a Master of Architecture degree.

Amarja practiced at Culver architects in Los Angeles and worked principally on residential projects around the city. Amarja later practiced at Shubin and Donaldson Architects, where she worked on a range of high end residential and commercial projects before starting Archrysalis. She is also a licensed Real Estate Agent.
